Wins for Warriors Foundation, founded by Houston Astros pitcher, and former Detroit Tiger, Justin Verlander, will be holding its 3rd Annual Patriot Ruck presented by Pink Energy in Detroit on Sunday, September 8, 2019, from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. The Ruck begins at Hart Plaza, with the Ruck route going along Detroit’s riverfront.

The 3rd Annual Patriot Ruck is an urban three- or six-mile military-style walk along Detroit’s riverfront to honor all military members, veterans and first responders who have served and sacrificed since the attacks on 9/11, Patriot Day. Participants are encouraged to put weight on their backs with a “rucksack” or weighted backpack, to simulate the ruck marches required for all branches of military service and the weight carried by first responders.

“The Patriot Ruck is a special way to honor and ‘carry the weight’ for those who have served and sacrificed for our freedom,” said Verlander. “We’re excited to hold the event along Detroit’s riverfront for the third straight year. It’s a special day that brings civilians, military members, veterans and first responders together to build memories and camaraderie, while remembering, honoring, and supporting those on the front lines.”

Each year, the event draws over 1,000 participants and spectators, with strong support from the local military community. The Patriot Ruck also includes food trucks, music, activities, static displays and a special veteran and military resource expo until 1 p.m. in Hart Plaza.

Registration costs are $25 for military, veterans and first responders, $35 for standard registration, and all participants will receive an exclusive Under Armour Patriot Ruck T-Shirt, Ruck Bib, Finish Line Photo Opportunity, and a commemorative Wins for Warriors Ruck Flag. There is also a $10 discounted registration price which does not include the commemorative Under Armour T-shirt.

For those not local to Detroit, or can’t make it on September 8, Wins for Warriors has a Virtual Ruck Option to allow participants to support the event and ruck on their own. They can sign up from anywhere in the world and receive the event’s commemorative flag and shirt via mail at www.patriotruckdetroit.com.
