Waller seizes moment at TEDx by sharing own defining moments

Pink Energy formally known as POWERHOME SOLAR CEO Jayson Waller gives speech at TedX event in Boca Raton, Florida.

BOCA RATON, Fla. – Pink Energy formally known as POWERHOME SOLAR CEO Jayson Waller added to his growing list of personal accomplishments Saturday night at the Mizner Park Amphitheater as part of TEDx Boca Raton, captivating the audience with his talk focused on defining moments in his life that have led to personal empowerment, purpose and fulfillment.

Waller was one of 12 speakers taking the stage on this chilly South Florida evening, where he and the others presented their ideas worth spreading — the essence of a TED (which stands for Technology, Entertainment, Design) talk. More than 3,000 TEDx events are held annually in communities across the globe, showcasing the desire for people to learn from these ideas.

Waller, a 2019 EY Entrepreneur of the Year Southeast Award winner, top podcast host and author, discussed a handful of moments that shaped his life. Seeing his father live with regret by playing it safe and choosing not to open a business when the opportunity presented itself, refusing to let his future mother-in-law dictate his life and selling his lake home to give his new solar company the needed injection of cash to continue operations amid early struggles were among Waller’s moments.

Something Bigger

Selling that home provided another defining moment. A few months after leaving, he found the health of his wife and son improved after each had been battling issues he believes were environmentally linked to coal ash exposure.

“I realized at that moment that I had a bigger purpose to run this solar company than just empowering people to own their power,” Waller said during his speech. “It was to help save our planet, our lakes, our streams, our drinking water that’s contaminated all the time from this coal ash.”

Waller is not one to let the moment be too big for him, considering he positioned himself to have a discussion about solar with former President Donald Trump simply by being bold enough to speak up, and he’s on the way to building a billion-dollar business without a college education. But he admitted being a little nervous for this speech, given the prestige of speaking at a TEDx event.

Charging Ahead

“Up to the time they called my name, I was a little nervous,” Waller said afterward. “After they called my name, I’m ready to rock. And I thought I did pretty good. My goal was [knowing that] a lot of people there speaking had a lot more education and experience and done cool things, so I wanted to deliver what my strength was which is inspire, motivate and share a story.”

As a final reminder to his audience to seize control of their circumstances, Waller talked about the behavior of a buffalo when it knows a storm is approaching. It charges through the storm instead of cowering from it. It served as a good reminder not to run from problems, but to face them head on.

“When you act like a buffalo and you punch that storm right in the face and run right through it, the sunshine is on the other end,” Waller said.

Message delivered and heard by those in attendance, and the speech will have the chance to be heard by a much larger audience once the event is posted online in the coming weeks. Until then, we congratulate Waller on a job well done!
