Pink Energy adds to Children’s Miracle Celebrity Invitational’s success

September 29th, 2021 | By Roger Kuznia

Pink Energy knows the value of giving back to the communities it serves, which is why we wanted to do something special in the Detroit area, home to our secondary headquarters office. We had the chance to do so recently by serving as presenting sponsor for the Children’s Miracle Celebrity Invitational benefitting the Children’s Miracle Network of Beaumont Children’s Hospital and the Mark Wahlberg Youth Foundation.

In all, the event held at the historic Detroit Golf Club raised more than $1 million for those organizations, and Pink Energy CEO Jayson Waller had a chance to play special parts in the day’s activities. Prior to the round of golf, Waller and Wahlberg hosted a virtual breakfast with approximately a dozen children who have been helped by the services of the Children’s Miracle Network. Waller and Wahlberg both got a chance to learn more about the kids and how they had enjoyed their summers.

Following golf, Waller presented a $10,000 check to the Beaumont Children’s Hospital team to go toward the purchase of customized therapy bikes that give children the opportunity to be a kid and ride a bicycle with modifications tailored to each child’s needs. Each bike costs about $2,500 to construct, so we’re truly excited to be giving four children in need the chance to have fun riding a bike and being safe while doing it.

Waller made the check presentation to Jim Wahlberg, Mark’s brother and the president of the Mark Wahlberg Youth Foundation.

“We worked with the Detroit Lions a few years ago on their Toys For Tots drive, so I’m glad that we were able to do something to make an impact again in the Detroit area,” Waller said. “I have four kids of my own, and I know how important it is to put smiles on kids’ faces. I’m so happy to be part of the reason for those smiles and to be part of the reason why they can also get such great care if those needs ever arise too.”

Waller also had some fun of his own with a number of celebrities who sat down for interviews for his Top 3 Apple entrepreneurship podcast True Underdog. Among those on were former Detroit Lions kicker Eddie Murray, Richard Karn, one of the stars of the 1990s sitcom Home Improvement, and boxing great Sugar Ray Leonard. Leonard, at the urging of Wahlberg, suggested he show Waller that he still has it at age 65. So, Waller obliged by letting Leonard use his torso as a punching bag (in good fun of course!). Everyone had a good laugh, but the best part about it was that we were all attending the event for the benefit of children. With over $1 million raised for those two charities, we all felt good in doing our part.
