Ohio gets enough sun for solar energy

September 13th, 2018 | By Roger Kuznia

Perhaps the greatest concern for potential Ohio solar customers is whether the state gets enough sun for solar panels to make financial sense. The answer is a resounding yes.

In case you don’t believe us, maybe you’ll believe data from the International Energy Agency. The IEA notes that in 2016, Germany was the world’s per capita leader in solar energy, yet it is far less sunny than Ohio. So if it works well in Germany, it will work well in the Buckeye State. And it indeed has for our customers there. Even on cloudy days, your solar panels will be producing some electricity — think about the last time you got a sunburn on a cloudy day.

While Ohio residents are paying slightly less for their power than the national average residential customer in the U.S. (12.64 cents per kilowatt hour as of June 2018 vs. 13.02 cents nationally), you may not know that Ohioans are paying an average of 9 percent more for their electricity than their neighbors in West Virginia and nearly 20 percent more than those in Kentucky.

Wouldn’t it be great to pay yourself instead of the power company to power your home?

The timing may be perfect, then, for you to consider powering your home with solar energy with help from Pink Energy. Getting solar panels installed on the roof of your home or via a ground-mounted unit will help offset the cost of what you pay the power company, allowing you to own your power and not just continually rent it from the power company. Excess energy produced by your panels is sent back to the grid, giving you credits on your electric bill.

SOLAR EDUCATION: Pink Energy teaches the ABCs of going solar

Going solar allows you to lock in a monthly cost of your solar system while insulating yourself against the inevitable rate increases your power company will impose. Your savings become even greater once you pay off the system. In fact, the average homeowner will save tens of thousands of dollars over the lifespan of his/her solar system. It’s a huge win.

With our innovative solar program, homeowners can go solar for $0 up-front cost, save money on their electric bills, and generate their own clean energy. The solar panels installed on your home are American-made and come with a 25-year warranty, with many panels expected to last well beyond that.
